Portret 1989 – 2009 is devoted to the genre in which Vanfleteren has shown himself a true master in recent years: the portrait. The book includes 200 portraits of people, still alive and already passed, who, according to the photographer, mean or have meant something to Belgium and the Netherlands. The portraits sometimes envoke melancholy, sometimes they're disarming, but always intriguing.
