ABOUT
Visions of Japan is a series of monographs on contemporary Japanese photographers that is finely produced and beautifully executed. Shomei has produced this body of work at Kujukurihama, a place he refers to as his own Point Lobos. Just as Weston and Adams spent time photographing Westward, towards the ocean, concerned with all aspects of the shoreline, so too has Shomei concentrated his energy on one stretch of shore. These carefully composed abstracts were made by looking down at the black sand and objects that have washed ashore.
