ABOUT
The first comprehensive monograph on the photographic work of Nikolaus Walter presents around 200 impressive images from nearly forty years of artistic creation – the diverse, consistently developed oeuvre of a master of black-and-white photography in the tradition of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Lebeck, and Robert Frank.
Nikolaus Walter takes his time with his photographs. He spends long periods talking to the people he portrays, lives in the landscapes he captures. The seriousness with which he approaches his subjects is also reflected in his images. Even in his quick snapshots, one senses empathy and a love for what is depicted. Whether taken in his native Vorarlberg or during extensive travels across the world, Walter’s images always reveal a deep sensitivity to people and their changing ways of life.
