This catalog was published for the solo exhibition ‘Past tense – Future, 1979 – 2040’, held at Taka Ishii Gallery in May 2012. Just as this exhibition showed thousands of Araki’s positive films on 3 large light boxes—a total of 5,248 images—so too every single page of this book, from the cover to the back cover, is covered in photographs. The work begins in 1979, when Araki first started using the camera’s dating feature in his work, and ends on the date when Araki himself would turn 100 years old, May 25th, 2040.
