ABOUT
Mimesis: The Non-Standard Poetry Book is a hybrid poetry art book engaging in conversations around creative authorship and the evolving role of technology within the creative processes. It is based on a poetry night that took place on 30th June 2023 at Limestone Books, where 7 poets read their poems, while Scott The Dot-Matrix Printer, operated by DuctTape Collective, acted as the 8th poet, interpreting the performed pieces.
By fostering a deeper understanding of the intricate interplay between human ingenuity and technological innovation, the book invites reflection on where the border of authorship is in an increasingly technologically mediated world. Does machine output constitute genuine creativity, or is it merely an algorithmic reiteration of human input? Does creativity inherently belong to the domain of human consciousness? And can a machine be considered a poet in its own right?
Mimesis is a homogeneous collaborative piece shaped by the interplay between the original poems by LDH, Maria Voth Velasco, Jody Aikman, Jean-Shelia Messi, Britt van Baaren and Malu Ebenau, Scott The Dot-Matrix Printer’s interpretations, DuctTape Collective’s intervention, Florian Cramer and theo ploeg’s contributions, Merle Findhammer’s editing and Doğa Gönüllü’s design. With that, this experimental poetry book emphasises the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in expanding the limits of artistic expression.
