The Starns first appeared on the art scene in the mid-1980s, and quickly took the world of modern art in the United States by storm with installations that radi-cally changed prevailing notions of photography. This exhibition will trace the Starns' development by featur-ing 16 works dating from their debut in 1986 through to 1993.

Motifs such as Christ, horse, still lifes, and seascapes appear repeatedly in the Starns' work. These are cut up, folded, and taped together to create a surface of deli-cate beauty. Their sepia-colored scenes lead the works a Gothic air as well as a sense of the potential for new kinds of expression that photographs contain.
