ABOUT
Using a vernacular style of photography, Hans van der Meer documents everyday scenes in the Netherlands. This book is about those things that are pervasively visible in the Dutch urban environment, much of which has been built in recent decades, particularly outside the major cities, where populations have increased dramatically.
The centres of many towns are a patchwork of gradual additions, resulting in places that are simultaneously familiar and interchangeable. The same shops and logos can be seen everywhere, not to mention the same typical urban features. By including catalogue images of common objects, the reasons behind this phenomenon become clear.
