ABOUT
In the 1960s and early 1970s, Ulrich Mack worked for two major German illustrated magazines. On assignment for Quick and later Stern, he reported on international wars and conflicts, covered national events, observed politicians at work, and photographed international stars.
Ulrich Mack (1934) is best known for portrait series in the tradition of August Sander, as well as for still lifes and meditative landscape studies. Less well known, however, is his contribution to modern photojournalism. Yet he was among West Germany’s leading photojournalists.
He documented John F. Kennedy’s visit to Germany, covered the Six-Day War, attended meetings of Gruppe 47, and repeatedly portrayed important contemporary figures. Zeitreise offers the first comprehensive look at his journalistic work—a journey through photography and media history, and above all, a tribute to a sharp-eyed and deeply committed witness of his time.
