ABOUT
At the invitation of Festival Image Singulières, Bieke Depoorter explores the French seaside town of Sète by night. She wandered through the streets in the evenings and into the night but could not bring herself to take pictures. As a solution for the increasing uncomfortable feeling of seeing the people she photographs as objects, Depoorter started to use them as actors. Although she portrays them in their true environments, she projects her own story onto the scenes, fictionalizing the realities of her subjects in a way that blurred the lines between their world and mine. In Sète#15, Bieke Depoorter presents a nocturnal vision of the city with a filmic dream-like atmosphere. The photographs convey the muted pulsations of a sleeping city.
