ABOUT
The screen went out, the wires loose. First grey, then white.' On New Year's Eve 2008, two young people died in an accident, the sister of photographer Andrea Stultiens and the best friend of author Vrouwkje Tuinman. Early January 2009, they were buried, a few days apart. They have been missed ever since.
Intensive Care tells in words and images about the unimaginable and unexpected nature of a sudden death. The images and poems share their unsentimental, but rather everyday approach to death and what it unleashes. Photographer Andrea Stultiens takes and collects photos to tell stories with. For this book, she captured the hospital, the funeral home and the funerals. Her work focuses on the influence of 'the environment' on people. She exhibits internationally and publishes several books. Author Vrouwkje Tuinman is a poet, writer and journalist. In Intensive Care she writes about mourning and memory. Her latest novel Buurvrouw was published in 2008. She is currently writing short stories and for musical theatre.
