ABOUT
A monograph focusing on agnès Geoffray’s recent photographic projects, this book follows on from the two previous volumes published by La Lettre volée: Ultieme Hallucinatie and Profond silence. Taking on the role of an iconographer, Agnès Geoffray plays with images through staging, association and fragmentation, unfolding a world of latent and mysterious tensions. Domination, authority, violence and their representations occupy a central place in her work. Through photography, her work explores the survival of archetypal gestures and postures that draw their source from a diverse repertoire: mythology, folktales, news stories, historical events and press photography. Blending staged scenes with the reappropriation of archival material, her work focuses on the poetic dimension of images, akin to a documentary lyricism. In this way, he reveals the dramatic potential of any image. Les Captives takes its title both from the captivating and fascinating nature of the multiple sources from which the images originate, and from the reminiscences, survivals and constantly evoked references that permeate the entire body of photographic work.
